For visa applications submitted on or after April 15, 2026, individuals applying for the “Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services” visa who engage in duties requiring Japanese language proficiency (such as interpretation, translation, or hotel front desk services) will, in principle, be required to submit documentation proving a Japanese language proficiency level of “N2 or equivalent or higher.” *This regulation mainly targets applications filed by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) or newly established corporations (Category 3 and 4 companies).
